Final Stages in Freeroll Tournaments
The size of a player’s stack will determine his onward strategy to win at the final stages on a poker freeroll tournament. Although most players know that it is the best tip for getting as many as chips as possible in the shortest time, they may face certain different situations calling for a number of various winning strategies to follow.
Being Short Stacked: There are two main options for short stacked players: to go all in and to fold. Some players choose to fold if:
· There are more than 3 people at the table – just wait for a better hand
· There is more than 1 call in or 1 and a call
Some others may choose to go all-in if:
· They have pocket pairs or high face cards and no player has gone all in before them – they choose to play aggressively as they estimate they have nothing to lose.
· They see that it is best to raise a hand at an early position that calling in later on.
Being Medium Stacked: In this suitable position players can afford a hectic game style or playing as tight as a rock. Those who play tight usually use the same strategy they would use if they were playing short stacked, but just raising bigger and more aggressive raises. They usually raise or call in on every hand they face with no hesitation.
They know that it is best to fold on every hand with little possible outs and play aggressively on shorter stacks. Although being extremely aggressive may be less favorable in most situations, there is one condition that makes it pretty useful – facing a very tight poker table. If all the other players play tightly, professional players do not hesitate to go wild and try to win until somebody confronts them.
Being Large Stacked: Good poker players will manage to get them all in by bullying the shorter stacks. When they manage to do so, they will then fight for a head-up position although they may not have the best cards. If an opponent limps, they raise with something more than X3 of BB. They do not usually call great raises unless they have very strong cards. To do it, an Ace, some suitable face cards, any pocket pair from 88 or a small kicker will play the trick to set the game pace or rule the hand.
Between two and five players: When the other players are fighting among themselves, it is advisable to leave them bust each other and get out. Getting into big confrontation if you don’t have a very strong hand – such as KK or AA – is not advisable. Playing a little aggressively and avoid being bullied is crucial at this point.
